Community Involvement
MCBOR is committed to protecting and promoting private property rights through legislative efforts and community services. This may not sound very exciting, but our members keep an ear to ground with local city councils and township trustees, supporting - or opposing - legislation related to home ownership rights. Our voices are heard, at local, state and national government.
Equally important, our members are involved in the community. The Housing Opportunity & Community Outreach committee is chartered to provide hands-on and financial support to local charitable organizations.
We paint… We pull weeds and plant flowers (and get poison ivy!) … We build bridges (literally!)… We get financial grants…
Our members have huge hearts and believe in giving back.
Some of our recent projects are listed below. If you know of an organization in need of help, please contact the board.

The Spirit of Giving is Alive in Medina…
Stockings will be stuffed and gifts will overflow in the homes of those in need this Holiday Season, due to the Medina County Board of REALTORS® 3rd Annual Designer Purse Bingo event held at The Foundry Social in Medina on November 9th, benefiting the Salvation Army’s Christmas Initiative.
Medina County Board of Realtor Affiliates, along with MCBOR CEO, Sherry Stell, and her staff, orchestrated a wonderful charity event.
Christine Dern, the 2020-21 President of the MCBOR Affiliates, not only chaired this year’s event, but was also the Emcee. Christine kept the night flowing with fun, lots of laughs and helped people embrace and reflect on the generous mood of giving throughout the evening, as the affiliate team worked diligently, selling a record amount of bingo and raffle tickets.
“It takes a fantastic TEAM to put on such a successful event and the generosity of the real estate community is overwhelming when it comes to giving back,” Christine stated. “Much appreciation needs to go out to all the MCBOR affiliates who donated their time and the beautiful purses. This year was over the top. Attendees were able to win purses from Gucci, Kate Spade, Michael Kors, Tory Birch, Fount, and even a Louis Vuitton, during the games.”
This year’s event raised enough money to help over 78 children receive gifts and 29 families with food for the holidays as well as stuffing 150 stockings for children.
The Foundry Social deserves a huge thank you for opening their doors, and hearts, to make the 2020 Purse Bingo not only a safe but successful event, opening on a night that they are typically closed. The friendly staff worked hard to guarantee all COVID-19 protocol was followed.
A big thank you also goes out to all the Realtors and attendees who took their time to support this cause. This event would not have happened without their support.
Making a difference; that is what your Medina County Board of REALTORS® and the Affiliate Committee are all about.
Salvation Army - Adopt a Family Program
The Affiliate Committee organized the 2nd annual Designer Purse Bingo held on November 6, 2019. Over 150 people attended and had a fun night playing 11 games of Bingo with chances to win Designer Purses. 100% of the proceeds raised went to the Salvation Army Adopt a Family Program.
We are proud to say that our Association provided Christmas gifts for 55 children, 8 adults as well as providing over 50# of food each to 19 families in the Medina County Area.
In our busy lives, we often forget there are so many families in need. Our members give generously so we may help our community. And we do make a difference. The Board received a touching letter from one of the recipient families:
Dear Christmas Angels,
My family and I are at a loss for words that can fully describe our gratitude. We were overwhelmed by your generosity this Christmas. The gifts and food you provided for our family were wonderfully thoughtful, not only that but a blessing. In a year that has been difficult for more than one reason, the gifts provided were so much more than material items. They displayed the true meaning of Christmas; the love we should always share, the blessing of helping and rising one another, and bringing joy to others hearts. We cannot thank you enough for providing presents under our tree and food on our table. Most of all, the smiles and joy that filled our children’s magical Christmas.
Thank you to our amazing Affiliate Committee for their time organizing and shopping. And to all those members who participated. See you next year!

OPERATION HAPPY FEET
The goal of Operation Happy Feet is to provide new shoes every child who is in the protective care of the Medina Battered Women’s Shelter. This is an ongoing project and to date we have raised over $2500 to purchase gift cards. The gift cards are distributed by the Shelter to families. Families will literally arrive at the Shelter with only the clothes on their backs. If providing these children with new shoes is a way to put a smile on their face, then we have made a difference.
“Happy Hour for Happy Feet” was held on Oct. 24th. The event took place at 111 Bistro in Medina and raised money through ticket purchases, raffles and a phenomenal auction. All items were donated by members of MCBOR and local businesses. Many thanks to Anthony and 111 Bistro for providing the venue and to the businesses that donated auction items. Also, a big thank you to the committee, REALTORS® and Affiliate members who attended and donated items.

MEDINA CREATIVE HOUSING
An ongoing partnership with Medina Creative Housing, the committee volunteers painted 3 full size apartments for the Residents, installed raised vegetable beds, and held a class on cleaning your home with natural products. At the Life Skills Lodge, volunteers painted, installed flooring, and helped build a bridge and cleared brush for the Horse Therapy Ranch.

NEWBRIDGE VETERANS PLACE
MCBOR was instrumental in securing a $5,000 Grant from the National Association of REALTORS® to purchase and set up household appliances, beds, furniture and various other household items for the residents. Volunteers painted the interior, decks, windows and siding, cleared shrubs and planted landscaping. This too is an ongoing project.
